Berthing arrangements will be made by the XO and the Chief
Scientist. HEALY can carry up to 50 scientists. The XO
is responsible for all US Coast Guard crew berth assignments
within the crew-designated cabins on the 01, 03, and 04
decks. The Chief Scientist is responsible for assigning
science berths. Science berths include two cabins located
on the 04 deck, all of the cabins on 02 deck, and several
cabins on the 03 deck. When the science party is smaller
than 50, the Chief Scientist may assign 2 scientists per
cabin on the 02 deck, but will work with the XO to accommodate
any critical additional Coast Guard contractors and trainees
within the science berth allotment. The Chief Scientist's
stateroom (Telephone ext. 402) has two berths and is located
in Officer's Country (04-33-6-L). Science party members
shall maintain the cleanliness of their berthing areas
and heads. Blankets and linen are provided. Members
of the science party must provide their own towels, soap,
shampoo, etc. Approximately 24 cubic feet of
locker space is available for each science party member.
Use of padlocks is recommended to secure valuables while
on board.
