Healy - Vans & Van Storage

HEALY is capable of accommodating eight standard twenty-foot long ISO container type Science vans. Four vans are located on the main deck aft and positioned such that two can open directly into the vessel’s interior and provide direct access to the Main Lab. The interface between the van and the vessel’s structure is made weather tight by means of a set of rubber flaps located around the access openings. The other two vans can be positioned to open directly onto the aft working deck. Two additional vans can be located on the port and starboard sides of the 02 level directly aft of the RHIBs, and two vans can be located port and starboard of centerline on the forecastle. Provisions have also been made to provide stowage of two 40-foot science vans in place of the Healy’s Arctic Survey Boats when those craft are not embarked. Maximum weight of each van and contents is 15 tons.

Science parties should note that HEALY normally sails with one storage van occupying on 20' ISO van slot (typically on 02 deck, port side) for storage of waste.

Also, depending on van weight and location, a commercial crane (sometimes a barge crane) may need to be hired by science part to put it on and take it off the ship.

Services to the vans include: various electrical power configurations (110 VAC to 440 VAC), compressed air, uncontaminated seawater, firemain water, hot/cold potable water, auxiliary seawater, SDN port, valved drains, telephone, smoke detectors.
